About Lauren Barnes
Personal Overview and Background
Lauren is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist with a diverse experience working with individuals, couples, families and children. Lauren’s clinical work began with young children on the Autism spectrum, where she developed a passion and love for serving families and nurturing the development of the young mind and soul. Lauren additionally has a background of working in higher levels of care such as residential treatment and partial hospitalization programs with adolescents and adults. These experiences have shaped her into a therapist who is well-informed on working with complex diagnoses, including but not limited to eating disorders, OCD, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder and personality disorders. Her clinical training experience working with families actively involved in the court system, turned Lauren into a clinician who is an advocate for her clients, walking alongside them in their darkest of times, ensuring they are equipped with all of the necessary resources to thrive. Lauren completed her MA in Clinical Psychology at Pepperdine University, to whom she accredits her love of being a lifelong learner.
Who I Work With
Lauren is passionate about getting to serve adolescents and emerging adults as they navigate life’s overwhelming changes. Discovering one’s identity and values are at the heart of this stage of life, and it is a therapist’s privilege to be on that journey alongside you. Lauren is additionally passionate about supporting children and their families through life’s hardships and transitions, and she has an additional background of specialized training for neurodiverse children as well.
Therapeutic Approach
In the therapy room with Lauren, the path to healing will be made clear. Lauren takes an integrative, holistic approach, taking the time early in your care to identify with you what evidence-based approach best suits you and your goals. You will be included in the development of your care every step of the way, and will leave therapy feeling a sense of confidence and self-advocacy for your continued healing.
Lauren more specifically draws most often from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Narrative Therapy, Schema Mode Therapy and Client Centered Therapy, all of which are well-researched, evidence-based approaches to healing. DBT is a gold standard, evidence based approach that is utilized to support clients seeking help for emotional regulation strategies, interpersonal struggles, and finding the delicate balance between acceptance and change. Narrative Therapy is a model that empowers clients to “rewrite their stories” and is most helpful for those of us feeling stuck in cycles and patterns we are wanting to change. Schema Mode Therapy provides a framework for understanding “why we do the things we do”, allowing space for both the history that led you to the therapy room, and a vessel for change. And Client Centered Therapy is at the heart of it all, Lauren is here for you. The relationship you develop in the therapy room will be what propels you towards healing, even on the most difficult of days. Lauren’s promise to you is to be compassionate, honest, and kind, always.
