Mayra Sernas, LMFT

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

About Mayra

Mayra is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) with five years of experience supporting individuals, couples, and families. As a trauma-informed and relationally focused psychotherapist, she integrates cognitive, emotional, behavioral, and somatic approaches to help clients understand the patterns that interfere with living in alignment with their values.

A core part of Mayra’s work is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), an evidence-based treatment for trauma and overwhelming life experiences. EMDR allows clients to safely access and process unresolved memories so they no longer activate distress in the present. By engaging the brain’s natural healing mechanisms through bilateral stimulation, EMDR helps reduce emotional reactivity, release stuck material, and promote deeper resilience. Mayra pairs EMDR with Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (Level I) and mindfulness-based interventions to strengthen the mind–body connection and support clients in integrating new, more adaptive ways of responding to stress and emotional triggers.

In addition to her trauma-focused training, Mayra has received specialized education in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). She holds a Master of Science in Counseling from California State University, Northridge, and has clinical experience in both trauma recovery centers and intensive outpatient settings.

Through a collaborative and compassionate therapeutic relationship, Mayra has supported individuals navigating developmental trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, and PTSD. Her work emphasizes safety, empowerment, and long-term healing.
